100 Days to Go

Yes, just 100 days left before we stop working. After that, we’ll still have a month to completely clear out our house. Luckily, through our son, we found someone who wants to take over almost half of our furniture in January.

Of course, we’ll also have to notify many institutions that we’ll no longer be living in the Netherlands and cancel various subscriptions—our Dutch phone numbers, internet, insurances, and plenty more. One big step is already done: our house is officially sold. The preliminary purchase agreement has been signed, and the down payment has been made.

Soon, we’ll head back to Galicia for a two-week holiday. Naturally, there are still a few small tasks waiting for us, like mowing the grass and making some minor preparations, but nothing too demanding. Our main plan is to really explore the area.

Right now, the most important thing is to keep our focus on wrapping up our life in the Netherlands—everything else will follow in time. Still, some things do need to be arranged in advance, like health insurance in Spain. During our last visit, we already sorted out most of the insurances. Once we officially deregister in the Netherlands, which we’ll do in mid-January, the health insurance in Spain must be in place, of course.

In the meantime, we’ve bought another car with a spacious trunk, perfect for the big move to Galicia in mid-January. Thankfully, we’ve also found someone who can help us import the car, especially since our Spanish hasn’t really improved much over the past few months—we just haven’t had enough time to study as much as we’d hoped.
