Behind the Scenes of Netflix’s ‘Animal’: The Stunning Galician Locations You Need to Visit

The new Netflix series ‘Animal’ (or ‘Old Dog, New Tricks’ in English) has quickly captivated audiences with its poignant blend of comedy and drama, telling the gripping story of a rural veterinarian caught between the demands of the city and the call of the countryside.

But beyond the compelling plot and the charming (if grumpy) lead, played by Luis Zahera, it’s the breathtaking scenery of Galicia that truly steals the show. The lush, misty landscapes and authentic villages aren’t just a backdrop—they’re a main character.

Curious to walk in the footsteps of Antón, the reluctant vet? We’ve got the insider’s guide to the real-life filming locations behind the camera!

Where Was ‘Animal’ Filmed?

The production team shot the entire miniseries in Galicia, focusing on the province of A Coruña to capture the authentic, ‘emptied’ Spain (la España vaciada) feel.

While Antón’s home is the fictional Galician village of Topomorto, its charm is a composite of several real and picturesque spots:

  • Santiago de Compostela: The vibrant capital and end point of the Camino de Santiago serves as the urban counterpart. This is where Antón is forced to confront the absurdity of his new job in a luxury pet boutique.
  • A Coruña Province Villages: To create the world of Topomorto and Antón’s rural reality, the crew used locations in and around several small towns, including:
    • Pontemaceira
    • Touro
    • Arzúa
    • Teo
    • Vedra

These spots are known for their stunning natural settings, including the characteristic rolling hills, ancient stone structures, and verdant forests that perfectly embody the series’ mood.
