The Camino de Santiago continues to affirm its position as one of the world’s leading cultural and spiritual routes. According to the latest figures released by the Pilgrim’s Office, more than 520,000 Compostelas — the official certificates granted to those who complete the pilgrimage — have been issued so far in 2025, marking a 6% increase compared with the same period last year.
Tourism authorities attribute this growth to a combination of factors: improved international connections to Santiago de Compostela, expanded infrastructure along the main routes, and ongoing global promotion ahead of the Xacobeo 2027 Holy Year.

The Xunta de Galicia emphasized that sustainability and cultural preservation remain central to future plans. Efforts include enhancing rural accommodation standards, managing visitor flows, and protecting the Camino’s natural and architectural heritage.
The figures confirm that the Camino de Santiago is not only a journey of faith and reflection, but also a vital engine of cultural exchange and regional development, strengthening Galicia’s global image as a destination of heritage, hospitality, and spirituality.
