How were the first three weeks in Galicia?

Well, less busy than the first two, but there were still things that needed to be sorted out. Internet (pretty important) turned out to be a challenge. The previous owner hadn’t cancelled his account with the provider, assuming we could simply transfer it into our name. In practice, this wasn’t so easy.

After several email exchanges with the provider, we found out they have to comply with a Spanish law that requires us to submit information from the previous owner. Since we don’t have that information, choosing a new internet provider turned out to be the best option, allowing the previous owner to cancel his account.

Masmovil

Today, we went to Lugo and applied for internet through MásMóvil. To our surprise, they’re coming in just two days to install everything. In addition to internet, we both now have a Spanish phone number, a landline, and Spanish television (which might help us learn the language). Although I have a feeling we’d better start with Dora the Explorer first. 🙂

Once the SIM cards arrive, we’ll need to go to Monforte de Lemos to update our phone number with the energy company. They want a Spanish number, and the real estate agent was kind enough to provide his in the meantime (thanks, Frank!).

In terms of paperwork, most of it is now behind us. Coming from another country, it was quite different—but actually also pretty logical how things work in Galicia. You're used to handling things in a certain way, and suddenly it’s different. No problem—just adapt and go with the flow. In the end, everything works out.

For anyone planning to buy a house in Galicia, my advice would be: do your research so you’re somewhat prepared. I mostly did this through Reddit and Spanjeforum (Dutch). That way, we weren’t caught off guard.
