We’re Michel and Yvonne, a Dutch couple living in rural Galicia, in the northwest of Spain.
BeautifulGalicia is our independent guide to life in Galicia, based on what we experience, discover and learn along the way. We write about the practical realities of moving to and living in this part of Spain, as well as the landscapes, culture, places and everyday experiences that make Galicia unique.
We’re not lifelong Galicians, nor are we experts on every aspect of the region. We’re newcomers who are building a life here ourselves. That perspective is at the heart of BeautifulGalicia: we share what we experience, what we learn, and what we wish we had known before making the move.
From personal blog to practical resource
BeautifulGalicia originally started as a personal blog, written in Dutch for family and friends following our move to Spain.
Over time, we noticed that many of the questions we were receiving were coming from people outside the Netherlands who were interested in Galicia, whether because they were considering moving here, planning a visit, or simply wanted to understand the region beyond the usual tourist destinations.
That led us to develop BeautifulGalicia into an English-language resource for anyone interested in Galicia.
Our aim is simple: to provide useful, honest and experience-based information about what it is like to live, explore and discover Galicia.
What you’ll find on BeautifulGalicia

Our approach
Everything on BeautifulGalicia comes from our own experience, research or exploration.
Where we write about things that can change, such as residency requirements, regulations, property matters or other practical issues, we try to make clear what we know from experience and what should be checked with the appropriate official source or professional.
We’re also happy to acknowledge that we’re still learning. Galicia is a big and diverse region, and living here has taught us that there is always more to discover.
If you spot something we have got wrong, have a different experience, or think there is a subject we should cover, we’d be very happy to hear from you.
